Age Estimation
Age estimation allows authorized workflows to estimate an age range from facial imagery, where a suitable verification technology supports it. It is designed as a supporting signal — not a proof of age.
Estimated age ranges, not exact ages
A facial age estimation returns a range — for example, 25–34 — rather than an exact age. It is not proof of exact age, not proof of date of birth, and not government age verification. The platform presents estimated ranges with clear, prominent limitations.
Comparison with document date of birth
Where both are available, the workflow can compare the document date of birth with the estimated age range and flag material inconsistencies for expert review. The comparison is an indicator of consistency between evidence sources — not an authentication of age on its own.
Lawful, consent-based use
Age estimation is performed only in workflows that are legally authorized, with explicit consent and data minimization. Age estimation evidence is stored as an assessment state, and raw facial imagery is not retained unnecessarily.

What is age estimation?
Age estimation is the estimation of an age range from facial imagery, used as a supporting signal rather than proof of age.
Age estimation models analyse facial characteristics to produce a probabilistic age range. Because the estimate is probabilistic, it cannot establish an exact age or date of birth, and it does not replace government age verification. Its value is as a cross-check: a material inconsistency between an estimated range and a document date of birth is a useful risk indicator for expert review.
Privacy note: this capability follows our privacy-first biometric architecture — explicit consent, data minimization, least-privilege access and audit logging. Biometric information is never exposed on public verification pages.
